The first step in proper brushing and flossing is to simply choose the right tools.
The first step in proper brushing and flossing is to simply choose the right tools. For example when it comes to brushing your teeth it is best to choose a toothbrush with softer bristles. The brush should also be small enough to reach even the tightest areas at the back of the mouth. In some cases electric toothbrushes are a good option for those looking for added convenience. In terms of flossing, there are several options as well that can be addressed.
For example, individuals can choose from multiple strands of nylon to versions of floss that are un-waxed or those that are waxed. There are even handheld flossers that are designed like a bow where a short piece of floss is attached from one end to another. Electric flossers are sometimes are a good choice. Once the right tools have been selected it is important to use them properly. When it comes to brushing, hold the toothbrush at a 45° angle to the gum line. Then brush with gentle circular motions at the base of the teeth. When brushing, slowly work from side to side while getting both the upper and lower sets.
Take the time to brush all teeth and between teeth where possible. The right way to floss is to simply wrap traditional dental floss around one finger on each hand. Slowly move the dental floss back and forth between teeth and adjust the floss so that a new piece of floss is available for each new area to be flossed. Perhaps most important of all when it comes to brushing and flossing is daily consistency. Always remember to floss and brush at a minimum of twice a day preferably after meals. Three times a day is even better. Contact your dentist in Elk Grove, Dr. My Huynh at Laguna Park Dentistry for more information on how to keep your teeth looking their best at any stage of life.
